Aquí tenéis un vídeo explicativo sobre la "aparición" de la grafía ñ en español. Como bien señalan en la BBC, es un sonido nuevo que apareció en los romances evolucionados a partir del latín y que hoy en día se conserva con distintas grafías en cada uno de los idiomas :)
